Does IT Assistant manage only Dell systems?
IT Assistant discovers any Internet Protocol (IP) or Internetwork Packet eXchange (IPX) device on the target subnet. If IT Assistant can determine the system type by reading the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) information, it can report this information through the IT Assistant Web-based user interface. All systems that do not have industry-standard DMI agents can be discovered on the subnet but are listed as unclassified. From non-Dell systems with industry-compliant instrumentation, IT Assistant can receive standard DMI alerts and generic Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps, but cannot configure the systems or perform vendor-specific operations.

Yes. IT Assistant only manages Dell systems that have Dell instrumentation installed and running. • Why is it that if I reinstall IT Assistant and choose an express installation, CIM is disabled? Express installation does not support retaining CIM settings because you have to provide the authentication information for enabling CIM. However, if you select, a custom installation, you are prompted for the CIM settings and CIM is enabled. If CIM has become disabled after performing an express installation, you must perform the CIM setup again. See also “Enabling CIM Discovery” for detailed CIM setup instructions and “CIM, DMI, and SNMP Information” for other CIM information.
