Does Iowa have its own Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) like the federal law?
No. Iowa does not have a “mini-FMLA.” Employers with at least 50 employees over a specific amount of time must meet the requirements of the federal FMLA, which provides for up to 12 weeks of job-protected leave for eligible employees. All other employers, including FMLA-eligible employers who may have employees who are not eligible for federal FMLA coverage (because of the length and hours of service requirements) must meet the requirements related to pregnancy disability set out in the Iowa Civil Rights Act found at Iowa Code Section 216.6(2).
