Does interval training work?
Interval training is a completely different workout from a 40 min steady run. It develops your anaerobic conditioning (the ability to build more power and speed) as opposed to aerobic (the ability to work out for a long time at a slower pace, such as the steady run). Interval training burns mostly carbs while aerobic training burns more fat. For those who play football, baseball, hockey or any sport that requires power, interval training is a must. But if your goal is to simply lose weight and tone, I would recommend you have a balance of both interval training and aerobic work (such as a long run or bike ride). Your heart will thank you for it!
