Does IM Chat Improve Productivity in the Work Place?
At my job, we use Microsoft Office Communicator, basically a business version of MSN messenger…. From personal experience I would say that it definitely has advantages. My business has two sites just here in this state that are a 30min drive apart from each other. When it comes to needing a bit of information quickly this is a good way to get it fast (better than e-mail in my opinion). We also have corporate buildings in other countries and it helps to be able to communicate quickly. Our manager even wanted to use it to see when we login so he can quantify our time at work and such… but to be honest, that has caused so many people to stop using it altogether. Downsides of the communicator is that it can take people off-track if they start chatting or sharing websites or photos (Guilty!)… All in all, it has its ups and downs… what you need to think about is how you are going to use it and if e-mail or the phone is a more effective communication in your circumstances… I think t
