Does IDEA require that school districts provide minutes of IEP meetings to parents?
No. The 1997 amendments to IDEA do not require that minutes of the meeting be a part of the IEP document or process. However, experience has shown that minutes often clarify what has been agreed to at an IEP meeting and prevents any confusion at a later date. Due process hearings often come about because the parents and school district are not clear as to what they are agreeing. Discrepancies can more quickly be addressed when memories are fresh and no real harm has occurred.
