Does ice melt faster in air or water?
Ice will melt faster in water as water will have more contact with the ice and will absorb the heat better. This process will also help to transfer the heat to the cooler ice cube quicker and more efficiently. Initially both air and water contact are equal in size, but as the cube starts melting the puddle of cool water acts as a protective skin which will slow down the process with just air contact.
