Does H&R Block have a positive reputation?
I worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block for a short time. Here’s what a lot of people don’t know. You don’t need to have any accounting or tax experience or education to work for H&R Block as a regular tax preparer, all you need to do is take a few of H&R Blocks tax classes and pass. I can’t remember for certain, but I think it was a class that lasted about one hour, once a week for about six weeks. They taught you the basics for tax preparation (the same information that you can read for yourself in your tax return booklet and forms), but you didn’t even need to remember all of that, because they have a computer program that does all the work, you just needed to know where to plug the numbers into. Some of the folks preparing the taxes where I worked couldn’t have answered a real tax question if their life depended on it. I actually heard tax preparers saying things like “Well, that number doesn’t work there, so let’s try it here…” while entering numbers into the computer. If you h
