The pregnancy blood tests doctors use is based on the hormone called HCG produced by pregnant women. There are also other hormonal levels that can indicate pregnancy such as progesterone levels but the definitive hormone is HCG. One month of trying is not that long since the average couple takes about a year to conceive, so try not to despair.
