It’s reckoned to be, quite consistently, 10 or 11% of the population. And in the animal kingdom, in herd animals, the gay ones are often entrusted with protecting the young whilst the others gather food. Rather than a fad, or a life-style choice, science has demonstrated the ‘gay brain’, a different wiring and architecture to heterosexuals. So, if we are all Gods’ work, perhaps rampant zealots should appreciate their blasphemy when heaving cudgels at those who were born a little different to the most of us. Peace.
This is not how evolution works. While it could be in the “interest” of the ecosystem or of the species to reduce reproduction, it could never be in the “interest” of the gay gene to eliminate itself. If you’re looking for evolutionary explanations of homosexuality, you may think of: – There could be a gene for turning other people of the same sex gay, thereby getting rid of a competitior. – There could be a parasite, spreading by anal sex, that turned it’s host gay. – There could be a gene for pretenting to be gay, thereby avoiding agression from jealous competitors Personally, I think that if there is a gene “for” homosexuality (which is far from certain), the explanation is that homophobic cultures force natural-born gays to live as heterosexuals, thereby allowing them te spread their “gay” genes.
