Added info. Your home owners or renters policy will usually cover theft of personal property from any location, e.g. your hotel room or automobile. Auto insurance will not cover personal property kept inside the auto. Homeowners must buy insurance to make their lender happy, but I recommend that renters consider insurance for a more important reason, liability coverage. Should you injury someone accidentally the liability coverage can be very useful. The loss of a $250,000 personal injury lawsuit would be much harder to recover from than the loss of $25,000 worth of personal property due to a fire or burglary in your apartment.
