Yes, Hitachi’s Drive Fitness Test (DFT) is able to test Linux systems based on x86 processors. DFT is a DOS-based utility and it is not dependant on the operating system. A binary image version of DFT is available for download here. As an alternative, Smartmontools is a SMART monitoring tool that lists the SMART attributes of the drive. Checking the SMART status of a drive is a quick way to verify if the drive is functioning correctly.
