No, HIPAA does not apply to your LTD and STD plans but these programs and workers’ compensation may be affected if Protected Health Information (PHI) from the health plan is used in these other programs. In addition, the medical release used on the STD and LTD claim forms will need to be revised to conform to the HIPAA authorization requirements.
