Does high salt intake contribute to being overweight?

0

Excess sodium intake causes your body to retain excess water. Depending on your body weight, a person can retain multiple pounds or kilos of water. This water weight is transient though. It will be excreted via urine. Sometimes this takes up to 48 hours to completely get rid of excess sodium in your body. High salt could contribute to people being overweight, because salty foods tend to be processed, high calorie addicting foods. When you eat salty foods you will always eat more than if you ate non-salty food because the salt causes you to crave more water. Many times you will continue to eat the salty food instead of reaching out for the water which is what your body really wants.
