Does hgv driving pay well and is it worth paying to go on a course?
You have to consider other factors in addition to pay. I’m going to generalise since I don’t know every HGV driver, you may be away/abroad putting strain on your relationship, most drivers diets aren’t great, nor do they get much exercise. You can keep your ‘night out’ money which I think is around £15 and sleep in the lorry but sometimes it’s not convenient to find toilets/showers. Poor posture from driving long distances can cause back problems. Some Hauliers are struggling at the moment due to fuel prices so look for work with the bigger established companies if you can. On the plus side you get to travel, and in Europe prostitutes often knock on drivers doors offering their services. I had an adventure in my early forties travelling in a lorry through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany to Berlin during the Love Parade 2000. The roads/rest stops in Europe are much better than ours in catering for lorry drivers.
