Does help the less fortunate still mean anything?
Of course it does. However, to me the less fortunate have to show me that they are making an effort to help themselves as well. I was less fortunate at one time, but I didn’t whine about it, or even expect a handout. I took whatever job I could find, worked hard, went to school got a professional degree, and still work hard. Members of my religion contribute to the families who need school supplies and school clothes for their kids. We provide reading classes to help people learn how to read and spell. We find work for those who want to work, provide free child care for single mothers who work, take people to doctor and dentist appointments, take hot meals to shut in’s, and take elders marketing. So yes, helping the less fortunate means something. It’s the human thing to do.
