Does Health Insurance Cover Psychologist Visits?

The question today is, “Does the health insurance policy cover a trip to the psychologist?” The answer is, “No.” Health insurance is designed to take care of health problems. A psychologist is not working in a health problem arena. So we’ve got apples and oranges here. If you want to go to a doctor, for a health problem, then your health insurance policy will come into effect; it will cover many things. But if you go to a psychologist, you’re not talking about a health issue, you’re talking about a mental issue or a stress problem. If a health insurance company gets wind that you’re trying to use the policy in that way, they will exclude everything related to that. So if you have a stress situation, they will start to increase premiums and in general, will not want to carry you on as one of their customers.
