Does having small or large breasts make a difference when a mammogram is taken?
Women with particularly small or large breasts, or who have had breast implants, are advised to ask for a radiographer who has experience of accommodating women in a similar position. No matter how small a woman’s breasts are an experienced radiographer will find a way to get a reading. If a woman’s breasts are very large the radiographer may need to take more than one x-ray from each angle. Women with implants will need x-rays from several different angles so that the radiographer can work around the silicone or saline, which may block views of the tissue behind it. However, an experienced radiographer will know how to position a woman’s breasts to deal with any of the above types of breast.
