Does having a tight cervix determine how hard labor will be?
I had a septum in my vagina and the tissue was also in my cervix. This extra tissue casued my cervix to be like “a ligamant instead of a rubber band” – quoting my midwife who has felt 100’s of cervixes, when I was dilating. The labor was very painful, but I did it totally naturally without even a little bit of anything. I am sure that you can endure especially if you do not have any abnormalities like I did. My recovery time was probably less than most because I am in great shape and took really good care of myself during pregnancy. THe thing that will casue you the LONGEST recovery is a C-section. Don’t go to the hospital until you are close to second stage because tight cervixes do take longer to dilate and the doctors in hospital will be likely to label you “failure to progress” and section you. Please take a Bradley class to learn how to deal with labor pain and get what you want in a hospital (which is probably avoiding a section).
I would ask the gyno if she thinks it feels too small for delivery. My sister went into labor for 36 hours with pushing on and off for a really long time. Only to then be wheeled down for an emergency C-section because they decided that the baby’s head was too large to fit through her cervix. We were all really upset about this because you would think that they would have figured this out a little sooner. However, I think that it is always uncomfortable and painful during an exam so I would make sure to ask the gyno what she thinks. It may be fine.
