No, bark mulch does not cause termites, but it can give these pesky insects a chance to tunnel in the mulch allowing them to reach a structure. We recommend that you leave a barrier between the structure and the area you’re mulching. This way the subterranean insects will come in contact with light which will help aid in stopping their tunneling process before reaching the area that would be prone to termite damage.
