Does Habitat donate the home to the family?
Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor — sweat equity — into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. There is no charge for volunteer labor and no allowance for profit; however, families purchase their home for the value of the materials and land. Habitat finances the house with a 20-year, NO INTEREST mortgage.
