Yes, you do have to pay for Guild Wars, but only once. (Technically.) There are three Guild Wars campaigns (Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall) each of which are stand-alone games. They can be found in video game stores from $10-$30 each. You only need to own ONE of these to play Guild Wars, but extra content is unlocked if you own more than one. There are several bundles out there that allow you to purchase more than one game at a time. There is also and expansion pack, Eyes of the North, which is available for around $30 dollars at game shops. This expansion pack requires that you have one other game to play (it doesn’t mater which one) and only has content for characters level 15 and above, so don’t buy it until you’ve seen if you like Guild Wars. There ARE micro-purchases available in Guild Wars, but only one of them results in any items.
