Does grade determine amount of knots/or is is it wood selection?
Answer Susan, The grade of the wood is what determines the the amount of knots. Most pre-finished wood is #1 common, which has very little knots, but you can purchase what is typically called Tavern Grade, or Cabin Grade to get a more rustic look. I know that the Aluminum Oxide does sometimes look plastic, but it is the best finish. Not all pre-finished floors that have the aluminum oxide look plastic. Try looking at something that is distressed or hand sculpted if that fits in your home decor. Also, that “plastic” look will wear off fairly quickly anyway!!
