Does God consider the census a satanic ritual, as indicated by 1 Chronicles 21:1?
Satan caused David to take a census of his entire kingdom. God forbid this simply because he loved David and wanted to protect him from getting too egotistical. God wanted David to be happy with what he had. Since David had everything and the country was at peace, what point could be gained by taking a census — except to appeal to David’s ego? But David went ahead with the census anyway and discovered there were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand (1,100,000) men (1 Chronicles 23:3) over the age of 30. So if only the men over 30 were counted, and there were over one million of them, there had to be at least that many number of women and probably twice that number in children — making an approximate total of 4 or 5 million people. Because there were not as many people living on the earth in that time, compared to today, a kingdom of 4 or 5 million would be huge.
