Does getting braces hurt?
The only thing that hurt about getting my braces was when the orthodontist accidentally touched my lip with the glue-gun, which was hot. You won’t feel like eating steak for a week or so, and they may ache slightly but nothing too extreme. When the ortho ‘tightens’ your braces, they’re actually putting a heavier wire on, not tightening anything. In all of the 6-weekly visits over 2 years, I walked away with an ache twice. You should be given silicone strips, kind of like blu-tack, to put over the wire and brackets in case they rub against the inside of your mouth. It’s fun, easy and very effective. I had numbing cream as well, tasted disgusting but works in 5 seconds flat. Removing your molars may be necessary to create the room for your teeth to spread out. You’ll have anaesthetic and won’t feel it at all. My parents paid $5000 for my braces eight years ago, and my dad still says it was the best money he ever spent. A nice smile makes a world of difference in looks and confidence.
