Does GERD cause continuous chest pains, belching and trouble swallowing?
• Q: My doctor said I have GERD. Does that cause continuous chest pains, belching and trouble swallowing? • A: Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, occurs when a muscular weakness allows stomach acid to flow up into the esophagus, causing burning and irritation. You may also notice a sour taste in your mouth or an unpleasant sensation in your throat. Having heartburn or acid reflux two or more times per week can be symptoms of GERD. While reflux by itself isn’t unusual, untreated GERD can lead to serious complications.
