Does Genesis Support Evolution?

0

Genesis is a myth, which seems to have its origins in the creation myths of the Sumerians (Southern Iraq). Evolution is about nature. The bible is not about nature. It is about religion and provides a basic guide of morals and standards by which man should live by, and for others it provides a kind of comfort zone for its believers. Many religions have ‘creation myths’ and it is up to individual whether they choose to believe them as real fact is up to them. Many people choose to believe the Bible Creation story AND evolution since they are two entirely different competances, and one doesnt really have any bearing on the other, except, perhaps, in the confused mind!

I would be interested how some of these answers have decided that evolution is a fact, because from what I can see, there isn’t enough evidence to say that. There are three theories that would allow Genesis to support evolution, however I believe they are wrong. The first would be theistic evolution, which does take the Genesis account to be figurative and says that God was involved in making evolution happen. Then there is a gap theory that says there is a gap between the creation of the earth and the six-days of creation and any number of things could have happened then including evolution, or another creation; pure speculation. Finally, there’s the day/age theory which says the days refer to ages at that evolution happened and again God directed it. (I’m not sure that would square with the timetable that the theories of evolution proport since each species was created in such a specific order. Honestly, I think that the earth is old, but creation happened in six literal days 6-10,00

NO. It is possible for evolution to *coexist* with an allegorical or metaphorical reading of Genesis, but that is all. This is how many people who worship Yahweh can also accept evolution. But Genesis itself gives no support for evolution; that is purely a secular finding.

No. Genesis says humans came from dirt. Evolution doesn’t. Genesis is wrong. Evolution isn’t.
