A. Yes, New York residents now have an option of upgrading their current license or non-driver ID card to a NYS Enhanced Driver License (EDL) or NYS Enhanced Non-Driver ID (ENDID). The EDL and ENDID are a secure driver license (EDL only), identity document, proof of U.S. citizenship and NYS residence, and a Western Hemisphere travel document all in one. The document can be used for land and sea border crossing only, instead of a passport, as accepted method of entry to and from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean. An EDL or ENID cannot be used for air travel to other countries.
