Does gender matter in valuation studies?
This work presents evidence from three different valuation studies on the influence of gender in the formation of forestry-related values. Previous studies examined gender differences without explicitly considering their interaction with other explanatory variables. Three separate studies dealing with forest-related goods and services, revealed statistically significant differences in peoples’ preferences, especially between older women and older men, and older and younger women. In these studies, although there was no overall difference in preferences attributable to gender, there were significant differences related to age and income, in combination with gender.
