Does Gears of War 2 support 1080p?
I don’t post on these boards often. Although many 360 games do say “1080P” on the box, that just means that the 360 is capable of upscaling, up to that resolution. The 360 has dedicated hardware that allows users to scale their games to the native resolution of their TVs (called “optimal” in your display settings). Now, I don’t think they are ANY 360 games that run natively in 1080p. There are a handful of PS3 and PSN games that do in fact run in true 1080p. If any of you recall, Halo 3 ran in a sub-720p resolution (680 vertical pixels to be exact). Ninja Gaiden II is something around 570p or so. The hardware consumes less power in upscaling in 1080p than it does rendering 1080p natively. My guess, Gears 2 is 720p (perhaps lower) and can be upscaled into 1080i/p (or whatever your native resolution is on your TV). Also, I do want to point out, that you can only perform “optimal” settings if your 360 is hooked up via VGA or HDMI. I hope that helps.
