Does furniture containing glass have to comply with any special requirements?
There are no requirements in legislation specifically for glass in furniture however, the law says that all consumer goods must be safe, it is your responsibility to ensure that all furniture you supply is safe. The best way to do this is if the furniture complies with the relevant standard BS 7449:1991 which covers glass in furniture or BS 7376:1990 which covers glass in tables and trolleys. If you make furniture containing glass you should obtain a copy of the standard from The British Standards Institute and have your products tested.
