Does FortisBC sell ASHPs?
No. FortisBC promotes the use of ASHPs because it is an energy efficient technology that allows customers to reduce their energy usage and save money on their energy bill. How much does an ASHP cost? The typical cost for an ASHP that can service a 1400 sq. ft. home is approximately $4000 -$7000, depending on model and installation costs. Heating that home with an ASHP is estimated to cost approximately $550 per year, compared to an electric baseboard system which would cost about $900. Does FortisBC offer any incentives or rebates for ASHPs? Yes. FortisBC customers, and those customers served by the electrical utilities of Grand Forks, Kelowna, Penticton, Summerland and Nelson Hydro are eligible for the following: • A cash rebate of $250 or more; or • A loan of up to $5000 at 4.9% for 10 years (OAC). Do I need to have an alternative source of heat? Yes. Depending on the climate you live in, a heat pump will meet about 3/4 of your heating needs. An ASHP will work in temperatures down to
