Does flux residues affect circuit performance?
The short answer is yes. We had an interstate customer using a competitor’s “no clean” flux on small batches of just under 1000 boards, with an average of 15% failure rate / or tested faulty and had to be reworked. By subjecting those boards to a cleaning process prior to rework, Dozens of faulty boards passed all normal & burn-in tests. No-clean flux residues can be either cleanable or not cleanable. The non cleanable type leaves a milky white residue on the solder connection after cleaning / soaking in water.
