Does Exolise inhibit absorption of essential fatty acids?
A. Because EXOLISE inhibits gastric and pancreatic lipases, and hence dietary fat absorption, the possibility exists that some absorption of essential fatty acids will also be inhibited. It must be stated first that we have no data on this issue, as clinical trials of EXOLISE have not examined this parameter. However, we do not expect this to be a problem for the following reasons: 1. EXOLISE is a proprietary extract derived from green tea. Epidemiological studies on populations consuming large amounts of green tea (more than 10 cups/day) do not report any symptoms that suggest essential fatty acid or any other dietary deficiency. On the contrary, from our survey of the literature, all clinical parameters examined are favorable to the green tea consuming populations. These are many and include cardiovascular health, blood pressure, cancer prevention and maintenance of low blood glucose levels. 2. The inhibition by EXOLISE of gastric and pancreatic lipases is only partial, so that fat a
