Does exercise machines such as elliptical help with abs and/or obliques?
I’m very skeptical of targeted exercise. When I think back to the 1990’s, cable was full of infomercials for exercise machines that would cure us of lovehandles, but obviously that was a wash. Elipticals won’t specifically deal with that area of the body, but they are great for making visible improvements all around. I can definitely see an improvement, however that is based on having gone on the eliptical 70 times this year, and using it for about 70 minutes to an hour and a half each time. On my machine, I started out with a resistance level of 3 (I guess that each machine measures that differently) then moved up to level 4. I’m 5’7″ and was about 209 lbs at the end of January, after my first month using the elliptical. I got down to 187 lbs at the end of April (I’ve since started bouncing around from 188 to 193, though I expect to go below that plateau in June).
