Does evidence of economic growth necessarily mean that societys standard of living/life quality is improving?

Not necessarily. The growth of wealth could be disproportionate. In many countries, there is a widening gap between the rich and the poor, despite massive economic growth. China is one example.

I agree with the first answer you had here. The accumalation of wealth is very much disproportionate with even in under a so called socialist Labour Government. Britain prior to the Economic crisis was the 4th richest country in the world but paradoxically had some of the highest rates of child poverty in the EU. (3.9 million children currently live below the bread line.) This Economic disparity is a direct result of our hateful and exploitative nature that we have towards each other: We want to use our fellow man, control our fellow man, dominate our fellow man and then make them jealous of us, our achievements and what we have materially. This kind of attitude means that the standard of living grows for a select minority of people who use the others for there own gain. The winners win at the expense of losers.
