Does everyone who breeds contributes to pet overpopulation.?
Most common pet species suffer from overpopulation – there are simply more animals than homes. This means a huge number of numbers languish in shelters, or are destroyed, simply because they are unwanted. In its most basic sense EVERY single person who breeds their pet contributes to this overpopulation, nad is partly responsible for animals being dumped or put down. Every animal “purchased” from a breeder or store takes away a home and a life from an unwanted pet. Paying for “new” animals also encourages yet more breeding – so the problem gets worse. Every time an animal is “adopted” a life is saved, and no more breeding is encouraged or funded. Personally I feel that some people are more responsible than others for causing unnecessary suffering. In a basic mathmatical sense, the people who breed the most animals are the most responsible for overpopulation. So all the mills, BYBs etc, but also people who simply let their pets roam and breed at will – unneutered cats are a huge problem
