Does everyone need a hospital stay prior to spending time in the Extended Care Unit?
Medicare requires a prequalifying 3 day hospital stay. Medicaid insurance does not, but usually patients come to Extended Care from the hospital. Every insurance has their own set of criteria about a prequalifying stay. To find out about your policy, call your insurance provider whose number is usually on the back of your card.
