Does everyone have the power to choose their electric supplier?
No. Consumers in City-owned utility areas, like the City of Austin, and member-owned electric cooperatives, like PEC, do not have the choice of electricity providers. However, there are over 7 million customers in Texas that do have a choice, with more to be added in the future. Areas such as San Antonio, El Paso, and Amarillo will soon be added to the deregulated electric grid.
