Generally, we get enough nutrients from our diet. Unfortunately, the food that you eat may not give you enough nutrients for optimum health. Nutrients can be lost from food as a result of decreasing nutritive value of the food chain, poor methods of storage, preparation and cooking. In addition, our busy lifestyle often result in us inclined to eat out, skip meals or grab junk food for convenience. Furthermore, there are some group of people who need more nutrients – children and adolescents; pregnant and breast-feeding women; immobilized; housebound or institutionalized elderly people; vegetarians; smokers; heavy drinkers; chronically-ill people; and those who are on restrictive diet, such as dieters. Unless we change our diet and lifestyle, dietary supplements could help you in providing the optimum intake of nutrients.
