Does ethylene induce elongation of the rice coleoptile through auxin?
Ethylene stimulated the elongation of intact rice (Oryza sativa L.) coleoptiles in which endogenous growth had been stopped completely by decapitation and red light. p-Chlorophenoxyisobutyric acid slightly inhibited endogenous growth, but not the ethylene induced growth. Thus, ethylene could stimulate the elongation of coleoptiles in which the auxin level was considered to be very low.
