Does Estlink have any impacts on the environment?
Estlink submarine cable is produced using environmentally friendly technology based on converter stations. The cable is light and oil-free. Electromagnetic fields surrounding the cable are minimal. For example, when the cable is at a depth of 1m, the electromagnetic flux density on the surface is 30 mT and decreases with the distance. Consistent with the standards of the European Union, the optimum electromagnetic flux density should be below 40 000 mT.
