Does emule give you viruses like limewire does?
First of all, I have never gotten a virus from Limewire. Like any other program that’s used for downloading/sharing files, the risk of getting a virus is always there and the main cause of it is the carelessness of the user to accidentally overlook suspicious files. So to answer your question, yes and no. Simply having Emule will not give you a virus but accepting viruses is possible.
Neither program by themselves gives you viruses, any more than Internet Explorer gives you viruses. Both LimeWire and eMule are software programs meant to communicate with a worldwide file-sharing network (much like how Internet Explorer and other web browsers are programs meant to connect to the world wide web), and neither program contains viruses. That said, there certainly is content on both networks (much of it disguised to look like stuff that people would actually want to download) that could be harmful. Bad guys have (and still do) distribute viruses and other harmful software on file-sharing networks. You should run up-to-date antivirus software (AVG Free is free and quite good — http://free.grisoft.com/) and be naturally suspicious of files on file-sharing networks.
