Answer John, I would recommend that you have a competent safe company make any adjustment to the hinges of your door, however there are very few companies that still have the knowledge. To answer your questions, starting with door tilt – horizontal alignment with the frame is accomplished through the bearings and bushings, or in many cases tapered bearings and double races. If your door is out of alignment or showing a slight tilt, these bearings, bushings and/or races will need to be replaced – there is no adjustment. Replace them all at the same time. As far as the hinge pin adjustments for the crane hinge, it depends on where you need the adjustment – at the frame or at the door? Deciding which to use is an “on the spot” call based on that particular door’s operation. Adjusting vertical alignment not only allows the door to swing freely, but allows the door to seat properly on closing. If the hinges appear stiff, it may not be an adjustment problem, it may be a lubrication problem.
