I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes recently. I’m in no way an expert, but I did have to see a nutritionist. I posed the same question to her because I have always loved fresh fruit. What she told me was that a diabetic on a normal 2000 calorie diet should consume 4 servings of fruit a day, spaced throughout the day. For me she has me have one serving with breakfast, one at lunch, one in the afternoon and one in the evening or with dinner. Each serving of fruit should be consumed with at least one serving of protein (peanut butter, nuts, cheese…something like that). One serving is about 1/2 a cup of grapes, strawberries, or melon, 1/2 a banana, 2 plums or one small apple or peach. Certain fruits react differently with blood sugar for different people. For example, my mother in law who is a type 2 can eat apples with no effect on her blood sugar, but I can’t touch them without spiking. So to answer your question, diabetics can eat fruit and it won’t harm them as long as they eat
