Does each silicon element on a CCD correspond to a pixel?
I have heard 2 different stories here: Each element is color coded via a filter to be red, green or blue, so that you can get color photographs. So it takes 3 elements to make one pixel. So the number of pixels would be the number of elements divided by 3. However, I heard somewhere that the software in the camera interpolates the data from the elements to get the number of pixels back up to the number of elements.
