Does each person receive food and uniform allowance in the military?
Oh boy, been awhile since I’ve looked this stuff up. Let me see what I can pull from my brain housing group and I’ll look up the rest if I can’t think of it. If you are single and live in the barracks you will be able to eat at the chowhall/dining hall/etc for free with a meal card. If there is no chowhall available you will receive an allowance of some sort (think it’s called BAS – Basic Allowance for Subsistence). I don’t believe officers get a uniform allowance but enlisted receive an annual allowance (on the day/pay day) from when they first entered service. I don’t know how much it is but I know females in the Marine Corps get more because they have more crap and I think it’s more expensive. It’s not a whole bunch, but if you take care of your uniforms…you can just pocket the money and use it as you wish. Yes, the military will give you money to rent an apartment (called Basic Allowance for Housing – BAH) out in town but it is based on the area, your rank and if you have family
