Does each child have the same blood group as its mother ?
No. Blood group is determined by BOTH mother’s and father’s blood type. You inherit one gene from each parent. If someone is: 1. Group A they are either type AA or AO; having inherited an A from both parents or an A from one and an O from the other. 2. Group B they are either type BB or BO; having inherited a B from both parents or a B from one and an O from the other. 3. Group O they are type OO; having inherited an O from both parents. 4. Group AB they inherited an A from one parent and a B from the other. Rhesus factor (either Rh- or Rh+.) is determined by both parents, however Rh- negative is recessive and Rh+ is dominant. Therefore if you inherit: 1. a – and + from your parents you will be +. 2. a – from both parents you will be -. 3. a + from both parents you will be +. Negative factor is rarer than Positive. Only approx 16% of the Caucasian population is Negative, Native Americans 1%, and under 1% of those of African or Asian decent.
