Does each and every team member need to be part of an application to an extramural funding agency?

No. Each and every team member is not required to be included in subsequent applications to extramural funding agencies. However, IANR is trying to encourage formation and strengthening of interdisciplinary teams so that the interdisciplinary team will be more competitive for extramural funding. Thus, we expect that team members will be a part of the FY2010 IANR Strategic Investment grants as well as subsequent grants to extramural funding agencies. However, it is possible that not all areas of research on the interdisciplinary team will be needed on some types of applications to extramural funding agencies. Or, priorities of some extramural funding agencies may change over time, which may lead to a different mix of interdisciplinary team members. Thus, there could be some justification for not including all members of an interdisciplinary team on subsequent applications for extramural funding.
