Does Down Syndrome affect people who have it really severely?
If you get to know some people with Down syndrome, you would find out that they are an awesome blessing no matter what level they function at. There is a wide range of functioning levels. They are all slow because they do have lower IQs and their bodies (muscles, and other parts) react slower. There are many common health issues as well. They also have personalities, and strengths / weaknesses just like everyone else. There are less people on the high end than the middle in terms of functioning, however, this is changing. This is the first generation of people with Down syndrome to have the benefit of developmental therapy and good schooling since birth. When we set our expectations higher, they will try to meet those expectations.
