Does Dove soap contain any animal ingredients?
Unfortunately, yes. Ingredients vary for their bar soap and liquid soaps. Bars contain: sodium cocoyl isethionate, stearic acid, coconut acid, sodium tallowate, water, sodium isethionate, sodium stearate, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium cocoate or palm kernelate, fragrance, sodium chloride, tetrasodium EDTA, trisodium etidronate, BHT, titanium dioxide and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate. That’s a mix of coconut extracts, stabilizers, scents/coloring, and in answer to your question, several ingredients made of or by processing animal fat: stearic acid (usually derived from animal fat unless otherwise stated on packaging), sodium tallowate (treated animal fat), sodium stearate (also usually derived fom animal fat unless stated otherwise). Also, Unilever, which produces Dove, tests on animals. And they support terrible environmental havoc in maintaining their incredible demand for palm oil. So: Dove sucks. Unilever doesn’t give a damn about animals.
It’s also really not soap but a mix of chemicals and animal derived ingredients put together and called soap. If you are looking for real soap that is 100% vegan (not tested on animals or made from any animal ingredients) and organic and fair trade and really good soap I recommend Dr. Bronners. It is one of the few real soaps out there being made the old school way without harsh chemicals and stuff that real soap doesn’t contain. Plus Dr. Bronners is good for other things than just washing your body.
